O Scale Progress-Summer-Fall 2012
Our 2012 season was probably our best operating season in the last few years. We had very few electrical or track problems which made for enjoyable and fun times during our Sunday run days. Thanks to all our members for helping to make the layout as trouble free as possible and to all our crew members who keep the trains running!
During Summer and Fall months of 2012, the O Scale group completed work in several areas. Water has been added to the Pt. Richmond harbor area, along with surface details. Overall, it looks very realistic and greatly adds to the Pt. Richmond city scene. The Midway turntable drive system was rebuilt using a belt drive and relay controller. This will provide for much more reliable and maintainable operations. The Post Road double slip switch points rebuilt to allow better gaping and more reliable operation.
Additional framing for the completion of the south mountain has been installed. The lower level is now ready for rock castings which will be undertaken during our 2013 winter break.
Additional block detectors were added to Midway so OSCI can auto dispatch and run trains from Departure to Midway and return. A relay polarity reverser for Midway track 28 was installed so OSCI can reverse DCC polarity for trains. A successful OSCI auto dispatcher test run from Departure track 11b to Midway and back to Arrival track 1a. A total of 25 block were traversed without error! Train paused at Midway on track 28, auto changed track polarity before returning.
A refurbished Aristo Craft power supply was added to the Interurban line and wiring of the Churchill yard area is underway.
The Zenith video display is now linked to the Midway display. Includes a camera zoom capability.
At the December scale meeting, Jeff Rowe was re-elected as 2013 O Scale Trainmaster. Other news can be found in meeting minutes.
